Suited Connectors from the Early Position
Monday, February 8th, 2010A lot of players can be confused when they come up with a drawing online poker hand, especially from the early position. Since the online poker hand is essentially worthless without a helpful flop, many players will see a 5-6 of Hearts in their pocket cards and just toss them into the pile. On the other hand, many other players will get overexcited when they see suited connectors. They see a straight draw and a flush draw before the flop even comes out. These players end up tossing in a bunch of chips, only to be disappointed and broke when the flop misses them. Suited connectors can definitely be risky, but the flop can turn them from prospective hands to monster hands pretty quickly. The key to knowing whether or not your hand is playable is to know how aggressive your table is. Don’t throw away a hand with so much potential unless you know that you’re at an aggressive poker table. If your opponents have been passive for the majority of the game, it’s worth a look at the flop. If you’ve got suited connectors and you know that your opponents won’t reraise you, then bet into the hand and see if the flop will make you richer.
