Suited Connectors from the Early Position

Monday, February 8th, 2010

A lot of players can be confused when they come up with a drawing online poker hand, especially from the early position. Since the online poker hand is essentially worthless without a helpful flop, many players will see a 5-6 of Hearts in their pocket cards and just toss them into the pile. On the other hand, many other players will get overexcited when they see suited connectors. They see a straight draw and a flush draw before the flop even comes out. These players end up tossing in a bunch of chips, only to be disappointed and broke when the flop misses them. Suited connectors can definitely be risky, but the flop can turn them from prospective hands to monster hands pretty quickly. The key to knowing whether or not your hand is playable is to know how aggressive your table is. Don’t throw away a hand with so much potential unless you know that you’re at an aggressive poker table. If your opponents have been passive for the majority of the game, it’s worth a look at the flop. If you’ve got suited connectors and you know that your opponents won’t reraise you, then bet into the hand and see if the flop will make you richer.

Staying Cool

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

The mark of a great poker onlinepoker player is one who can shrug off the bad beats and big losses without changing their method of play. This does not come naturally to me, as I am a very emotional person. Not good. When you’re on a losing streak, people who get emotionally reactive have a tendency to want to change their game. The problem with that is that with most losing streaks, people change their games for the worse.

Bad luck is going to happen. There’s nothing you can do about it, it’s just a fact. It’s also a fact that your luck will turn around eventually and your luck will improve. The problem that many poker online players face is that they will try to change their luck by changing their game, and most do change their luck-they make it much worse. Some players who are on a bad run will start playing hands that they would usually fold in a heartbeat, they start playing aggressively out of anger, and their judgment generally goes out the window. Others will get nervous and tighten down, playing timid poker. They’ll fold playable hands, limp in when they should raise, and fold hands that they should hang on to.

Don’t make these mistakes when you find yourself on a bad run of cards. Play your game and ride out your bad streak instead of giving more chips away because your emotions have run amok. Remember this when you’re at the casino online.

The Elottery System Promises a Lotto Prize to All Participant Participating in the Spanish El Gordo Lottery

Saturday, November 28th, 2009

When you first come across the El Gordo Lottery, part of the Euromillions Euro lotto, you absolutely need to find out more. With payouts up to two point six billion Euros, the Elgordo Lottery offers one of the world’s richest jackpots. Even that isn’t all that is special here. With over thirteen thousand prizes being offered, your odds of winning something mean that there will be one winning ticket in every six. When you consider prizes given by competing lotteries, that’s nothing to be scorned.

To enter the draw, your first option is a full ticket, called a “serie”. Also available is a “d©cimo”, worth one tenth of a full ticket. This is the cheaper option. Sadly, both these choices are pricey ways to play nor will either of them increase your odds of a payout anyway. Because of this the Euromillions Euro Lotto also offers an e-lottery system.

With the Euromillions Euro lottery there is one monthly draw. But three months each year have special draws for larger prizes. To be perfectly precise: January’s “El Nio”, the summer “San Ildefonso”, and the Christmas “El Gordo” with the Xmas drawing being the richest of the 12.

Unlike typical lottery systems, the El Gordo Lottery utilizes balls with five digits printed on each in a range from 00,000 to 84,999. Two bowls are required, with one used to determine the winning number, the second the prize value.

This system guarantees a prize to everyone who takes part. You will automatically be assigned a team when you buy in to the El Gordo Lottery syndicate. With each team numbered between zero and nine, the final digit on the winning number signifies the winners and they go on to take the money. All members receive their share of the money. In preparation for the next draw, the syndicate offers subscriptions once again and the e-lottery continues.

Big Hands All around

Monday, August 10th, 2009

In Texas Hold ‘Em online poker, pre-flop betting is generally based on the pocket cards one is holding. When many players enter the pot early in the betting, those later to act sometimes assume that there are lots of highly ranked cards in the early players hands, and that means they are less likely to connect on the flop. If two or three players are holding Aces or other faces, the presumption is that those high cards are no longer as “live” as smaller cards. Late position poker online players often assume they can bet out smaller cards when many earlier players are in the action. The assumption is that low-ranked cards now outweigh the higher cards in the dealer’s hand and the flop will bring small cards. It seems like a logical conclusion, but can it work against you. Nearly half the deck consists of cards ranked at seven or less. That is still an improbable number of cards your small cards can connect with on the flop. Only one big card needs to appear to shrink the potential of your small cards. Don’t make the assumption that everyone is holding big poker cards when they bet before you, and that the deck is now weighted toward smaller cards appearing on the flop. Not only might other players be making the same assumption about their small cards, but some of those early bettors may be playing low-ranked pocket pairs or suited connectors too.

Later Folds

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Folding in poker is never fun, and it gets more difficult as the hand moves on, but it is a key element of a good poker player to get out while the getting’s good. Many players make the grievous mistake of falling in love with their hand, even after it has been busted.

For instance, say you have A-K suited, so you place a pretty big raise before the flop. It’s a good move and all but two other players fold the hand to you, then the flop comes A-Q-8, all of Clubs. You’ve got high pair, but you need to be careful because there is a chance that someone has a flush out there. Also, you can be pretty certain that your two callers had some high cards to call your raise, so someone may have paired Aces and Queens or have had pocket Queens or Aces and made a set on their poker hand.

Pay attention to how your opponents are betting, and react appropriately. If you have a usually passive player who is placing some huge raises, or if another player check-raises you, don’t be afraid to fold your hand, even if you’ve already committed some chips. If you’ve bet yourself into a bad spot, it won’t help you any to throw more chips in a pot your can’t win.

New Player in a Cash Game – Profitable Folds

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

As a kind of favor to a friend, I went to check out a new poker cash game. I didn’t have much money to spare at the moment, so I would’ve preferred poker online, so I went with the tight approach. I bought into the cash game for $100 and it was a $1/2 game. This is an average buy-in, of 50 big blinds, but many players would buy in for $200, and some even up to $300. I wasn’t sure how the game would play, so I decided I would sit tight and observe without playing too much poker in the beginning.

I didn’t have to post blinds to enter the game and was in pretty good position relative to the button to see some free hands. All of the hands I picked up were pretty average or worse and I saw that there were some standard raises to 7 or 8 bucks preflop with some accumulating pots after the flop. The first hand I decided to play was A,Q off suit. I was under the gun (first to act after the blinds) and we were 6 handed. I was planning on trying to play this hand cheaply, but I was also out of position on most of the table, so I might let go pretty easily. The next few player folded and the player in the cut-off raised to $8. I noticed he only had about $40 total at most and figured hi to be a pretty good target to try and get all in with preflop. The button and small blind folded and the big blind called $6 more. I raised to $40, the short stack called for an all-in, and the BB folded.

Basically, I figured that the BB was calling with a wide range of hands here and my limp-raise would look really strong anyway, making him fold most decent hands. This was correct. Though the house policy in a cash game is that players do not have to open their cards when all-in, I turned my AQ up and he showed K, 9 off-suit. Before I got there he apparently lost a pretty large hand and was tilting. I hadn’t really noticed this in the previous couple of hands, but I decided to pick on the short stack. The board blanked and I won, taking down a nice $40 or so for my first pot. This made me look a little aggressive to the table which I was satisfied with. I basically then just sat tight and tried to see cheap flops and hope to connect.
